No church member to submit names for temple ordinances
if not related.
In other words, we are to redeem the dead*. *dead = only those whom we are evidently related. This is yet another example of the church kowtowing to the opinion of the world. It bothers me. Would Joseph Smith have apologized for the work being done for Obama's mother? He would have used it as an opportunity to teach the world the truth about a misunderstood doctrine. http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmi...r.html?showall |

I'm worried about that baby in your avatar contracting e coli. It's deadly in young children.

I continue to be perplexed by a church that is willing to spend all of its political capital on something like gay marriage, but spends zero capital on something like redeeming the dead.
You know, the idea that the church can never do wrong, never fall into apostasy is a dangerous one. It means that mortal men feel that whatever decision they make is by definition correct. There is no reevaluation for error and mistakes. And that is always dangerous. |

They aren't getting any more or less dead if we don't get the work done now. It's not as though we're running out of relatives, either. Why not wait until we can convince one of their descendants to do it?
I don't understand why people are offended by the notion of LDS baptisms for the dead, but I acknowledge that people are offended by the notion of LDS baptisms for the dead. So what's wrong with a little effort to not piss people off?

I'm tired of handing my lunch money over to the schoolyard bullies.
You think we get ANY credit for this with these groups? ZERO. |

If we are doing it to make people like us, and they don't like us anyway, what's the point?
When you throw your doctrine in the garbage can, you might as well get something back for the effort. |

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth crain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
