Chinese Sea Turtles
The Beijing Olympics have been fascinating for me. We in the USA are as nationalistic as anyone at times I suppose, but I get the heebie-jeebies watching such intense nationalism from a nation with 1.5B people. Especially a people who don't seem to care too much about civil liberties and government censorship. Gives me pause about the future.
The conventional wisdom would be that China would eventually emerge from such a backwards political state due to increased international exposure. But I ran across this troubling article that tells a different story: http://www.newsweek.com/id/151730 Apparently, the Chinese who are living abroad are more nationalistic than ever. And livid that anyone would criticize them for Tibet and Darfur. Creepy.

Modern day China is akin to 19th century America.
Give them another 100 years of modernization and they'll figure it out, hopefully. |

There is serious potential for a very very ugly 100 years though.

China has big-time little man syndrome.
They are a proud people who are ashamed at being akin to Africa in terms of development, and they will take out their shame on everyone around them. |

We are literally fighting the murder of women, the idea that women are chattel. So you can see why people that fight this might be upset at a lot of preconceived notions of how women ought to be. |

Maybe it is why that talk pissed off so many women. Geez, I am not even a feminist, hell, I can admit, men are stronger, faster, taller and the right sex to hold the Priesthood, but is there any group out there other than Femi-nazi crazies who do believe there are great and unmatchable things about women? Other than Mormon women themselves, who bury this notion in humility, maybe that is another great and unmatchable thing about women.

Or maybe it's because people don't like to be corrected when they are wrong.
