Mysteries of Godliness.....
Anyone here read this book?
Goes into extreme detail about the changes in both purpose, ceremony and pageantry from the Kirtland Temple to the current format. Touches on the possible inclusion of the Adam/God theory in the endowment and Brigham Young's revelation to this inclusion. It even delves into practices such as the second washing and annointing that may still be practiced in the hierarchy of the church. ----- Just to touch on the multiple comments about leaders telling prospective patrons not to 'freak out' during their first endowment ceremony. Most of these gentlemen went through the temple for the first time when the endowment still contained the covenants and penalties for breaking said covenants with their violent hand motions. How shocking to the senses would it be to act out your violent death during a religious rite of passage? Thus now, these men are trying to lessen the potential blow they experienced by preparing potential candidates for what is to come. Last edited by fusnik11; 07-30-2008 at 07:00 AM. |
