isnt it sad that the wac of the eary 90s
had way better bowls than the mwc does now?
I submit that the Holiday bowl, freedom bowl and the copper bowl are all better then any game we have right now

It is sad, but true.
A big part of the problem, however, is the influx in bowls. When there are only 10-15 bowl games, each game has some luster and should have two solid, possibly even ranked teams playing each other. Now, with around 32 bowl games, you have teams that are barely .500 playing in the next new bowl game... seriously, how long until we have the "Who Gives A Damn Bowl" sponsored by "the Best Damn Sports Show"? |

I remember everyone complaining about the low visibility and meager payout of the Holiday Bowl. BYU fans were often dissapointed in the team invited to play (as Ute Fans are want to point out, we could only get a 6-5 Michigan team to come play us for the National Championship game). It was only after the PAC-10/Big-12 tie-in that the Holiday Bowl "grew up." The old WAC had the Fiesta Bowl tie-in until it "grew up" in a similar fashion by dumping the WAC.
The Freedom Bowl is now defunct. The Copper/Insight Bowl has moved on. Frankly, those bowls were third tier with their WAC tie-ins, which appears to be the common factor between now and then.
