Hannibal the Conqueror -- The Movie
I've been wanting to see the story of Hannibal made into a big budget movie since I first read about the Battle of Cannae. I wondered how I'd end it as a screenwriter since he eventually lost and died a sort of ignominious death in the near east, I believe.
So it looks like it's coming out next year with Vin Diesel as Hannibal and Valentino Morales as Hasdrubal. I guess if Edward G Robinson can be an Egyptian, these guys can be Carthaginians. I really hope they don't screw this up, but I'm not holding my breathe. Another historical movie that no one has done, but would be perfect is the story of William the Conqueror. You have the hero in William and villain in Harold. It would culminate in the hundreds of knight-carrying ships crossing the English channel and engaging in battle at Hastings. I've read that at one time William was thought to be dead and the troops were starting to flea. Upon hearing this, William gave a Braveheart-type speech that rallied the troops (amazing, i know, given that William Wallace lived 200 years later). Anyway, I think they could make a good movie, and the opening credits could follow the Bayeux tapestry. Just a thought. |

thanks for ruining the ending. Now I don't have to see either of them.

A story that great, and you pick Vin Diesel . . . I hope that they open and close the movie with an apology.

Maybe it's all done in Latin, so the voice over actually makes it look as if Diesel can act.

Russel Crowe would have been perfect, and that guy from 300 should have been his brother. |

Do you believe they will have the entire film in Punic, or will they browbeat us with Latin?

I figured it'd be a voice over, since he can't speak English, what the hell, they might as well try some authenticity. I've never heard Punic spoken, so it would be kinda cool.
