Bike To Work Day
Tomorrow is National Bike to Work day, which falls on the Thursday of National Bike to Work Week, which is the third or second week of National Bike Awareness and Saftey Month, which is May.
How many of you will commute by bike tomorrow? Besides me, that is? Where I live the local bike advocacy groups set up 'energizer' stations long the most common bike routes at which one can get free food and stuff. For a long-time cheapskate like me, this is too good to turn down. I iwll arrive at work tomorrow with belly and pockets full of food. America; what a country. Yes, I do realize this is a bike post and that there is a separate bike forum, but the whole POINT of Bike to Work day is to get the rest of you sluggards out of your corinthian leather SUV seats and onto your bike seats. So, who's with me? Anyone? Ferris? Is this thing on?

I think today is the Ride of Silence.
Like all things in my life recently, it will be preempted by church/scouts. |

I think that in Redding we're combining Bike to work day with Get Hit By a Car day. This is one of the least friendly bike cities I've ever lived in (speaking of city limits).

That being said, the Ride of Silence is a worthwhile event.

A. You could borrow one; if you lived around me I would loan you one of mine. B. How far is too far? 20 miles or less is easily do-able, especially in good weather. C. To spice it up a little simply flip off every pick-up, SUV, low-rider, sports car, muscle car or car with spinners (faux or real) that is within eye-sight. I assure you this will make it much more exciting.

Some of my fondest scout memories growing up were traveling from the Bay Area to the mountains just west of Redding for a 4 day backpacking trip, followed by a 2 day rafting trip down the Trinity River. Its a fun river - just rough enough to make the scouts think they are on real white water, but tame enough for the leaders to know that even the moronic scouts are not going to get into any serious trouble in a raft by themselves. |

Oh, and creekster, I'm with you for tomorrow.
The only problem is its 75-80 degrees by 8:00am, and we don't have showers at work. I suppose I'll just pack an extra large stick of deodorant. |
