Default Reading in the names of the new members

In our ward, the bishopric does this once in a while, and only about 1% of the time is it someone who is actually an active attending member.

It gets so bad, that people don't even look around when the name is read. They know it is a phantom name that has never been there, never will be there, and probably doesn't exist.

It's kind of funny and depressing at the same time.

I was a ward clerk. It's not well known, but in order to clean up our files, we would send our "lost" members to your ward. A lot of wards have been doing this for some time now.

I suggest your ward clerk just send them on to some other ward, maybe in the Philippines.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

I suggested to the bishopric that we do what Archaea did, have their addresses as their church office building. They didn't follow my suggestion.
