Default Sacrament talk: worst topic ever

"How to prepare for General Conference". Ugh.

Sleep, schedule lots of sports activities, buy lots of pizza and beverages.

I would love it if the Church would start a class on public speaking instead of regular Sunday School.

Sometimes our topics are very topical and timely, sometimes one wonders if they got them from a fortune cookie.

I have been given a new topic.

"Keeping covenants."

That's a better topic. Ideas on what to talk about?

My plan is:
1. a joke about being asked to give the talk, "When Br. Jones called me...."
2. "Webster's dictionary defines 'covenant' as...."
3. Quote from President Hinckley....
4. Quote from Joseph Smith (to kick it old school)
5. 5 scripture references
6. brief anecdote that makes me appear human, yet in the end, pretty dang awesome
7. testimony that everything I said was awesome
8. "I leave you these things in the name of thy son, Jesus Christ, Amen."

Or you could talk about the 2006 Movie.

This formula is almost right, although I think you need at least one recent Ensign article reference, to prove you are an avid reader. And you probably don't need that many scripture references. One or two is probably sufficient.
