I believe before he went wacko, Tyson could have taken Liddell easily as well, no matter the fight. A street brawler who was trained just enough in boxing to destroy the competition.

There was a guy on the Dan Patrick show the other day talking about the decline of boxing, particularly heavyweights. He said something like "the best boxers are in the NFL", meaning few great athletes (at least in the upper weight classes) choose boxing as a sport anymore.
