Yeah, unfortunately the P12 and B12 aren't interested right now. And while the WCC is kind of adequate for basketball and the other sports for now, we shoudln't just sit still, IMO. Short of joining those two leagues we prefer, we really should be working toward the formation of a major national conference using the Big East. Imagine a 14 team league that looks like this:

West division
Gonzaga
BYU
Creighton
Butler
Depaul
Wichita State (if they'll allow a non-private school)
Pepperdine (for the LA market)

East division
Georgetown
Villanova
Providence
Seton Hall
St. John's
Xavier
Marquette

That would be a killer basketball league. I know the geography would be challenging though. Right now the Big East doesn't have a very good TV deal because they signed up with Fox instead of ESPN. So this would have to be a few years down the line probably when that deal runs out. The money they get right now isn't that much more than what the WCC gets from ESPN. Adding teams from the west that ESPN likes such as BYU and Gonzaga and picking up the original Big East teams would probably get ESPN to throw in a lot more money than the BE gets from Fox. And while Pepperdine doesn't exactly carry LA by itself, I would guess when adding up the fan and alumni bases of all these schools living in the LA area, it probably adds up to a healthy TV audience there.
