An interesting note on Cougarboard and swearing...

The first time I was ever banned on Cougarboard was when I typed in something the effect of f***ing, which I meant just as I typed--a softening of the word such as fetching, freaking, fricking, f'ing, etc. I was banned for trying to get around the swearing filter. I knew of no such filter at the time, as I was new and I assumed people were actually typing yewt yewting when they made a post. In the note from the moderator informing me of my time in the cooler, I was ordered to type out the full curse word so that the filter would handle it. Anyway...

I got in the habit of typing out the entire word, even though it felt brisk at times to actually type it, because I knew it would be filtered. So to get the soft effect you had to actually type out the actual word. This leads me to one of the reasons why I was banned (or freed) eternally from the board--since so many are curious. It seems there is no filter for swear words in the "appeal a punishment" process where an appeal goes to the Cougarboard high council court. My foul language in the appeal which was assumed to be filtered was part of their horror and appall towards me.

I found that to be very ironic...that cougarboard taught me to type out actual swear words and then banned me for using them in a situation where the filter wasn't installed...
