He already has his place in the history of Mormon history. He's one of the most important figures of the past 30 years.
It's almost like he wants to say "I want to be accepted for who I am and what I did, and be in the good graces of the Saints." But he never overtly says this.
The man is gay, right? I don't know about his personal life, but we don't necessarily know that his separation from the church has to do with his historical work.
Would I be happy if I read one day that he was being rebaptized? Yes I would. I love it when people return. But I have no knowledge of what is needed for that to happen. And I assume that most people who have not returned to the church, are in that position as a matter of choice.
