The UCSB coach Ken Preston and Al Scates of UCLA accused BYU of illegal recruiting practices. This occurred when Joe Hillman transferred from UVSC and had played club there for a few years or something like that and also when Victor Batista joined the ball club. There was some discussion about Cala too the way he defected from Cuba while playing for the Cuban National Team. Also, Moreno lost his senior year of eligibility when it was discovered he wasn't taking enough major courses to advance towards a degree.

Peterson resigned amidst an admitted NCAA investigation. But all three players were cleared and as far as I know, no sanctions were ever levied against the program.

More than anything, it's BYU's recruiting abroad that upsets most of these other programs. And these kids have been playing at professional levels for quite some time which has brought into question their eligibility. It doesn't help that both Lewis and Hawaii have had titles stripped for these same sorts of violations.
