This reminds me of one of the tragedies of the Iraq War, which has now cost us $600 billion. Opportunity cost. We could have contained Saddam for a fraction of the cost, and done what with the extra $580 billion in discretionary dollars?
I get teary just thinking of all the new subways, national parks, charter schools, R&D, school loans, arts funding, foreign aid, malaria/AIDS dollars . . .
