This was not received well. Mormons are generally very invested in the idea that the world is bad, and is getting worse fast. I think we're invested in the world going down hill b/c it makes us feel better about ourselves, our brightness becomes more evident as the world gets darker.

As far as redeeming the world, I thought that was after it went to hell in a handbasket.
