I think I can say with complete honesty that I've never been offended by the words of another individual. I do believe that my wife (and she would be the only one) could probably say something that might prompt me to take offense because I value her opinion and I respect her as a person so much. Suppose you had a black family living next to you and you were good friends with them. And you discovered that someone has planted a burning cross in their front lawn. Would you consider that offensive? Or just "ignorant" and "silly"?
