Summary of pp. 1-9
He summarizes the thought of a theologian, Idirigay. She actually doesn't sound that feminist.
1. Motherhood is central to being a woman, but a woman should not be restricted to motherhood.
2. Motherhood is a function, not an identity.
3. There is a complementarity between sexes, and that shouldn't be denied.
Critique of Idirigay from Joy: Setting an ideal for women that is unfettered by patriarchal constraints (good!), but prescribing norms for women (bad!). Paradoxical.
[Chino knows third wave feminists often feel that feminism ignores black women, lesbians, working class women, etc. Feminists shouldn't prescribe norms for women based on white, middle-class assumptions]
