...Anyway, that's my quick two cents on the matter. As for the original question, it's a tough one because in some cases careful care and extra vigilance may be appropriate, whereas in many others the 'offender' is not a risk to anyone.

You're correct. I assumed from the original question that we were talking about child molesters. However, I understand that one can be designated as a sex offender for several other things. When I said that I would want to make sure that person never worked with the youth I was referring to child molestation. Not statutory rape etc...
