This the first step of trying to rehabilitate his image. There will be many more steps. It's too early to say whether it is a failure or not. He didn't need to hit a home run today, he just needed to get the ball rolling.
Tiger cares about his image and the money and power that are associated with it.
So does Obama. But I don't hear you ripping on Obama like you are Tiger.
