Default I'm still ambivalent on Prop 8

On the one hand, I try to support the church leaders in this. We have had a yard sign (which got vandalized the other night). We have the bumper sticker on my wife's car. I'm planning on working the phone bank this Wednesday, and we've already committed to go hang door hangers this Saturday.

So you guys who are going to criticize me for not supporting "the prophet" can bite me.

The problem is, the logic behind the proposition is weak, at best.

All the arguments I've been hearing are crap. We've already addressed those in the discussion about Morris Thurston's memo.

The only argument that make sense to me in supporting the proposition is that changing to a genderless marriage construct does away with the traditional male-female construct, which benefits from the differences in genders and gender roles.

But I'm getting really tired of hearing about the "horrible" consequences that are going to result if Prop 8 fails, and gay marriage continues to be allowed.

The main one these days seems to be that if Prop. 8 fails, then schools will be able to teach your children that (gasp!) marriages between two persons of the same sex exist.

The propaganda I've seen suggests that this somehow advocates for gay marriage. But even in the propaganda, it's nothing more than kindergarteners might be taught that a man can marry a man. NOTHING MORE.

What am I missing?
