It certainly wasn't as convincing as I would have liked, but that's hardly surprising. After all, UW has played the following games at home over the last few years:

2007:
Sept. 8 BOISE STATE 24-10 W
Sept. 15 OHIO STATE 14-33 L (game was 7-17 after 3, OSU scored with 0 left on clock)
Sept. 29 USC 24-27 L
Oct. 20 OREGON 34-55 L (31-31 after 3, O scored twice in last 4 minutes)
Oct. 27 ARIZONA 41-48 L (UW led 35-26 after 3, 41-26 in 4th. AZ scored twice on drives starting in UW territory in 4th).
Nov. 17 CALIFORNIA 37-23 W
Nov. 24 Washington State 35-42 L (Tied after 3).

I think it's safe to say a win at Washington is fairly tough to come by. I don't understand why a one-point win should be indicative of BYU being bad.

Concern over defensive breakdowns is certainly justified, but trying to use the score of the game as evidence of anything is laughable.
