Evolution Question

The bristling that comes from religous zealots (Mormon and non) at the mention of the word evolution has always baffled me. The bible does not say HOW God created the physical form that he blew the breath of life into.

I fail to understand why anybodies faith in God would be shaken by the belief that God used natural forces in the creation process. Does it make us anything less than the children of God if he used macro evolution to produce a physical body that was in the likeness of Adams spirit? Or does it show that God works in an ordered, precise, natural way.

My evolution professor at the Y said it best when he said that evolution is the process by which speciation was brought to the earth and God was the author of the process. When he came to a point where specific translocations were needed he made them happen. Hence the explanation for the complexity of the human eye. God is in the gaps.

Joseph Fielding Smith taught that nothing died on the Earth before the Fall of Adam. This was published in a book entitled 'Doctrines of Salvation' and published by the Church.

So....mess with evolution all you want but me and mines will hitch our wagons to the literal 6000 year old Earth....

As has already been discussed today, Joseph Fielding Smith also taught that man would never walk on the moon.

I believe so. Though you need an old copy because it was sanitized in later editions.

He also said that Italian food is best when it's authentic.

I think it was related after he taught the doctrine in a stake conference in Hawaii.

I've read all three volumes of DOS and do not recall ever reading about men not walking on the mooon, though like you said, many of the things he said eventually were sanitized.

Either way, it proves there is a fine line. A prophet is a prophet when "speaking as a prophet", whatever that means.

You're being facetious, right? I don't know you enough to know for sure, but I assume you are.

Of course he is. But I decided to play along anyway.
