Reminds me of the RSL poll about naming the Salt Lake team in which "Real" was clearly not the favorite, and yet... Checketts: "Hey, my brother went on a mission to Spain and HE thought that the names of Spanish teams were REAL COOL, and I like my brother because he's cool too, so we're going to name our team like a Spanish team."

At least the word "Republic" has something to do with Houston. (Sorry to still be bagging on the RSL name a year and a half later -- it still seems pretty silly to me, though, especially the way the ownership seemed to stiff-arm the opinions of would-be fans.)
