You can't buy that kind of publicity

BYU football all over the news. RM QB in his first game throws game-winning hail mary.

It was a nationally televised game on ABC.

And yet there are forces within this church that want to get rid of BYU sports. Turn us into scripture-toting weirdos. I don't get it.

That comes from scripture toting weirdos.

Without scripture-toting weirdos, no QBs would serve missions in the name of "publicity is more important." Then you wouldn't have RM stories.

We need both mullahs and borderlanders on board.

We can do without mullahs.

the rate of boys going on missions in my ward has been pretty low. I'm talking about the kids that were active until the age of when they could go. Less than a third.

I feel like we may be an outlier. Not something I'm proud of. But also something where I felt like it was mostly out of my personal control. I encouraged all the boys in my sphere to go on missions.

But if something like half of active boys are going on missions, it shouldn't shock us that some football players elect to not go on a mission.

Two of the boys in my ward that didn't go have stayed pretty darn active in the years since. Head scratcher.
