Morons on Cougarboard

When I was a young man, I found the morons amusing. Fun to tweak them a little.

As I get older, I realize it was a waste of time.

I almost never go to CB, but I did today, and did for a few minutes yesterday.

Someone posts, about CB, "is there any site that gets this much traffic?" (paraphrased). In response to someone saying something like "wow, 400 people online."

Moron.

That reminds me of when my cousin in Utah asked me if Texas had McDonalds as well. Backwater hicks who crow about the produce at SuperWalmart.

I don't know, there must be something wrong with me. I like BYU football, but I definitely don't feel like I fit in with BYU fans. At least not the ones on the internet.

That my friend is because you grew up in the shadows of the mountain, you can take the kid out of Aggieland, but you can't take the aggieland out of the kid.

I am dying up here is the peoples republik of Massachusetts. They think 500 people at a high school fb game is a good turn out. Only 14 days till kick off!

This is how I feel at church in my current ward.

do you have a calling that exposes you to a lot of different people?

MikeWaters 08-23-2010 10:23 PM

btw, the produce at SuperWalmart is not bad. I have the Atlantic article to prove it.

What is funny when a self-styled bourgeois like SU announces his discovery of the "amazing" Whole Foods.

I live in a small town in the South full of 5th & 6th generations southern Mormons. They are all related by marriage. They are all conservatives with little education, but steeped in Cleon Skousenish politicking.

It's rough sometimes.

I can't stand the Cleon Skousenites. He is / was a master of the dope-ler effect. http://www.unwords.com/unword/dopeler effect.html

BYU and BYU football cause internal conflicts for me. While there I enjoyed myself immensely, met some wonderful people, but sometimes find I wouldn't fit in there today. Or I'd do a lot of keeping my mouth shut, "go along to get along."

At BYU, as a result of the hegemony, we experience, "the nail that sticks up gets hammered down."

But thankfully the culture has lots of subcultures which allow each of us to find our own niche.

I did the first half of my undergrad time at Georgia Tech and then transferred to the Y. I really felt out of place until I got married and started grad school there. Once I got in with a group of other married grad students, it felt right. Before that, I felt like I was a hanger-on to Tim all the time. Being a convert from the South, I had precious little in common with most of the Y students. Plus, I quickly got tired of getting asked a million questions about my accent every time I opened my mouth.

But, the biggest thing for me was how shallow and boring so many of the conversations were before I was married. My sister and I both felt like people in our singles ward were constantly doing sexual compatibility arithmetic about each other when they were having any kind of conversation.

Bill: "So do you have a vagina?"

Jane: "Yes. Do you have a penis?"

Bill: "Yes. What do you figure on marital conjugal frequency?"

Jane: "Probably 2 to 3 times a week."

Bill: "Well, yeah, I was kind of hoping for someone with an anticipated rate of 8 to 10 times a week."

Jane: "Bummer, because you have a nice butt."

Bill: "And your ta-tas aren't that bad either."

Jane: "So do you have any friends? Maybe one that likes to study a lot?"
