There’s nothing special about Britain.

So says an "unnamed" White House official, responding to criticisms that they didn't treat Britain's Prime Minister according to custom:

Quote:

There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.
Other reasons given for the oversight:

- Obama's too tired
- Obama's overwhelmed
- Obama's surprised at the sheer volume of business he must attend
- Obama's aides are unfamiliar with the "diplomatic niceties" of America's relationship with Britain

In over their heads. I've said it many times, will be saying it many times more.

Didn't Obama give the Prime Minister of Great Britain 25 DVDs that won't play on a British DVD player?

I'm a pretty cheap bastard when it comes to giving gifts, and I don't think I have ever given such a shitty gift.

Embarrassing.

MikeWaters 03-10-2009 04:37 PM

That reminds me of my mom, who before one Christmas, asked me to burn some music CDs and DVDs to give out as gifts. I asked her if she intended to get the prize for world's crappiest gift-giver.

25 DVDs, lol. That is like something that would sell for $30 at a youth fundraiser.

Wow. Tex, that's a nice find. Classic.

Before I decide what to think about this, I want to read Cali's unbiased explanation of what is obviously a partisan hack job of Obama's character.

Mr Brown handed over carefully selected gifts, including a pen holder made from the wood of a warship that helped stamp out the slave trade - a sister ship of the vessel from which timbers were taken to build Mr Obama's Oval Office desk. Mr Obama's gift in return, a collection of Hollywood film DVDs that could have been bought from any high street store, looked like the kind of thing the White House might hand out to the visiting head of a minor African state.

Is Pallin one of his advisors?

MikeWaters 03-10-2009 06:38 PM

Obama can see UK from the White House. No worries.
