Are the missionaries safe in California?

Two kids in suits riding bikes is a pretty easy target. It's one thing to take a stand from the safety of an office building in SLC but these kids are on the front line everyday. I'm grateful my kid is far away from it and I pray that the missionaries in California are safe from harm.

I think it depends on the area. To be honest, If my son were serving in the Bay Area, I would nto want him out tracting in certain areas of SF. I am nto sure if they have any missionaries there anyway, but if they do, they shouldnt be out right now. Elsewhere, such as where we live, I dont think it is too mcuh of a problem. Thye may be subjected to more verbal abuse tha in the past, but probably not truly unsafe. Ironically, the hwole prop 8 thing may make it a little better for missionaries in areas with large evangelical populations.

Here in the far North prop 8 passed with 70% voting yes. The missionaries are probably as safe as ever.

Amen, Viking. My thoughts exactly.

You put too much faith in prop 8 as a "coming-together" between us and evangelicals. Things will return to normal, and we will again be seen as a non-christian threat in no time at all.

I'd be very careful for the next week depending on where I was, but after a week I wouldn't worry about. The anger will die down eventually.

I a not sure why you think I am putting "too much faith" in theevangelical response. First, I ma not putting any faith in it as to California. I was simply referring to the irony that to the extent it cause increased negative responses in some places, it may lead to less negative responses in others. On balance, my guess is that but for a very few places in urban CA the effect of prop 8 on the missionaries will not be significant.

My brother in law is serving in the Bay Area. We get his weekly emails forwarded to us from my MIL and he hasn't said a word about it to this point. I'll be curious to see his next email though.
