Another lawyer in the 12?

Cook is 67 years old, and has been a Seventy for 11 years. Born in Utah, lived most of his adult life in California.

He has a JD from Stanford. I could hardly raise my hand to sustain a lawyer to the quorum of the 12.

Furthermore, he only has 3 kids. Clearly, he didn't obey the commandment to "go forth and multiply".

And didn't we need more diversity in the governing councils of the church? I was campaigning for someone from Central or South America. So disappointing.

I love it. I had no idea Fatboy Slim was LDS.

Cook isn't the first marginally reproductive apostle (by Mormon standards). Here is an updated post of mine from several months ago:

Or we might look at the number of children each apostle has, to make an educated guess as to their personal emphasis on the Church's massive reproduction tradition, which is one specific conservative Mormon principle. I think we could define 4 or more children as massive reproduction.

Gordon B. Hinckley 5 children
Thomas S. Monson 3 children (a bit of a wild card politically--very few children for his generation)
Henry B. Eyring 6 children

Boyd K. Packer 10 children (clearly the most conservative apostle)
L. Tom Perry 4 children
Russell M. Nelson 10 children (AIDS is God's plague for homosexuals)
Dallin H. Oaks 6 children
M. Russell Ballard 7 children
Joseph B. Wirthlin 8 children
Richard G. Scott 7 children
Robert D. Hales 2 children
Jeffrey R. Holland 3 children
Dieter F. Uchtdorf 2 children
David A Bednar 3 children
Quentin L Cook 3 children

Two of the most obviously ultraconservative apostles were the most prolific reproducers.

What? They didn't call someone from the U?

At least they got the First Presidency vacancy correct....

Who's next Archaea, Adam, DHU?

Eyring sounds like a great choice for FP, as he is not perceived as antagonistic toward academia.

Cook is a strange choice, sounding quite safer, but he's an Aggie having lived in Utah and California, is relatively old, doesn't speak a foreign language and really adds nothing the Quorum doesn't already have.

I like some of the comments Cook has made to the media about wanting to remove the stigma associated with not serving a mission.

Between Gladys and the new apostle, expect a real makeover of the hymnbook.

I'm for adding to the stigma, not taking away from it.
