Another reason to detest the NBA. Maybe we'd be benefited if the entire pro sports system were disbanded or made to rely upon no taxpayer money.

Cowboys wanted a new stadium. Dallas refused to fund it. Arlingon, a suburb of Dallas between Dallas and Fort Worth, decided to foot the bill.

Recently however, the rate of return on their bonds increased due to the economy, and they had to refinance the bonds at a fixed rate, costing the city $2 million more, in addition to all the other money they are putting in.

Spectacular morons.

Quote:

The city expected the bonds to be paid off by 2027 and cost the city $495 million, including interest. Due to higher than expected sales tax revenue, it is projected that the bonds now will be paid off by 2023 and cost $465 million. That assumes no further increase in sales tax revenue.

By doing nothing, Mr. Mosby said, the city's ultimate cost could range from $450 million to $550 million, depending on whether MBIA rebounds.

"The risk on the backside of doing nothing is just too big," he said.

Are you a socialist? You sound like the foreign guys I work with who say the government shouldn't "allow" professional athletes to make so much money when teachers don't make very much money.

Athletes and everybody else should make whatever the market bears for their services. Unless you prefer a socialist state, how can you disagree with this?

Professional sports should do whatever is in their best interest financially. The same goes for municipalities that may or may not decide to subsidize professional sports franchises. You can argue that government entities should be unwilling to subsidize sports franchises but I wouldn't take that argument any further.

I am surprised at the folks who voted in this poll. I would have assumed that most of them would already be in the habit of challenging the premise before accepting it as fact.

How embarassing.

Triplet lives in a fantasy that the Lakers are a special case in that they don't receive a penny of government largesse. He's wrong. They're as much on the teet as aony other team. See discussion above. The essential point is that pub lic money subsidizes NBA salaries. NBA owners, coaches and players are on the public dole. The NBA is a huge taxpayer funded. boondoggle for the vey rich and all Americans and American cities should tell the NBA to fuck off.

For someone who professes a disdain for apologetics, you are certainly engaging in your fair share to cover up your shoddy research.

I never saw your source for Kobe's 30M salary. Would you care to share it with the group?

He uses the handouts he receives and the "Los Angeles" brand name to leverage endorsements that with his $21 million salary actually greatly exceed $30 million. If this is the only point you're reducted to that's pretty lame.

It is just one example of your shoddy research.

If you cant even get that right, why should your other assertions be trusted.

Please provide a link that shows how the Staples Center was financed.

I see in the other thread that 8Ball provided another example of a privately funded stadium.

Again, you need to go back to the drawing board and talk about the real issue....your racism disapproved of NBA (and other pro sports) culture, therefore you are happy to see these people leave town. In your mind, they contribute nothing to the community.
