This kind of news makes me feel really old.

creekster 07-11-2006 09:22 PM

Like Homeboy, it makes me feel old too. Truthfully, however, it was the fact that he was 60 years old and not that he had died that made me feel old.

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year.
Runnin over the same old ground, what have we found?
The same old fears, wish you were here.

Before somebody gives me an earfull, please know:
1. The quote is from memory so it could be off a bit
2. I know it comes from a post-Barrett album, but it was an album that was ABOUT Barrett, so it counts.

Friend, those aren't introdcutions, those ARE the songs. Without them, the lyrics are mere poetry (and sometimes not very good poetry). Floyd is best listened to in a darkened room while stoned, if non-mormon or inactive, or suffering from low blood sugar after a processed-carb binge if WoW compliant, not that I would know.

There are very few celebrity deaths that make me feel a bit down. This is one of them. Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands, though I came to know them a few years after Dark Side of the Moon was released. The Wall is huge from my early high school days.

You wouldn't know about being WoW compliant? That's what I thought.

Pink Floyd is in my glasses to motivate me on long rides. I'm going to listen to Dark Side of the Moon.

Wow just thinking about it bums me out. Don't know why, perhaps it's the large empty cavern I call a home.

Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour) 5:17

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Dark Side of the Moon is about as close as you ever get to the perfect album.

I am huge FLoyd fan both pre and post Syd's departure. Dark Side is a great album but my favorite is WIsh you Were Here. HArd to go wrong with any of Floyd's stuff, however.

If we ever have a Cougarguard party I'll bring the guitar and play all the FLoyd stuff from Dark side, the wall, etc. You will all regret it, but I will do it.
