The Lives of Others
I saw this little gem of a film last night. It's about as flawless as art gets. Exquisitely plotted, not a rough spot in the acting and writing, great atmospherics, powerful moral. See it.

We just watched this tonight, it's one of the better movies I've seen in a long time. The performance of Ulrich Mühe was excellent, and even more interesting when you know a little of his biography. (Mike looked up his wikipedia article). I won't post it here, in case it foreshadows a little of the plot.

Wow. I will watch this one tonight.
For me, this movie, or its plot, is amazingly poignant. I lived in West Germany when members longed for reunification and in fact, taught persecuted East Germans. I might order the German language version. |

The film was brilliant, and perhaps more moving for me, because I lived near East Germany prior to the time in question, heard firsthand the reports of escapees and it conveyed the time epoch well.
This will remain one of my favorites for a long time. |
