ESPN and Fox push back against Big 12 expansion
|
Holmoe said it will be days, weeks, or months before we know anything.

isn't that what someone on twitter said that he said?

these twitter sources are a joke. people trolling byu fans.

national sources have also been a joke. The B12 wasn't even looking at expansion they said the day before the big 12 announced they were going to expand.

"BYU Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe was in Salt Lake City on Thursday for the Beehive Classic announcement and was also asked about Tuesday’s bombshell that the Big 12 board of directors had voted to pursue expansion. “At this point in time there's not really a lot to report because we'll learn more a lot more in the next days and weeks to follow,” Holmoe said. “At that point we'll have more to say. But this is something that's been a long time coming. And we'll try to put our best foot forward." http://www.heraldextra.com/sports/co...c7e3a8545.html |
I'm not afraid to say it. If the Big 12 expands, BYU will be one of the teams. And this is after trying to take any emotion out of my thought process. I also don't think the Big 12 or the networks want a knee-jerk, emotional decision on this. The objective data favors BYU over the others by a long, long way.

I think BYU is the best candidate, but I still refuse to believe that the Big 12 will pull the trigger on BYU. I think they do something like Houston and Cincy.

So this morning this article shows up on ESPN about how BYU and UH, and BYU especially do not "water down" the Big 12. Why does this suddenly come out now? ESPN as we know, has been involved in the negotiations, so I think a plausible theory is this is the start of preparing the PR message about BYU and UH being a good addition because the big news is about to come down. To be honest, ByU and the gay rights issue has always been known to the Big 12. There are multiple sources who have chimed in saying that BYU and the Big 12 have been talking about it for a while. They just didn't know an activist group would try to hit the news this week. But the national media doesn't seem to want to talk about it anymore. The story is dying and only being kept alive now on the BYU message boards and to some extent in the local Utah media. That's not to minimize the seriousness of it, but it's not really much of a national story with the Olympics going on and Donald Trump going crazy.
