Best songs about a place?
Goatnapper's comment about the "Okie from Muskogee" inspires this question:
What's the best song about a place? You could for example, nominate "Do You Know the Way to San Jose." (Although if you do there's something wrong with you.) Or you could probably even argue that "Copa Cabana" is a place. (It's the hottest spot north of Havana!) Personally, I'm going with "Sweet Home Alabama" (although around here people sing Sweet Home Oklahoma which is just wrong), and also B52s "Love Shack." Thoughts? |
Easy. One Night in Bangkok.

Stairway to Heaven. That's a place, not a place I'm likely to see, but it still is a place.
Second place, Sweet Home Alabama. Third Place, One Night in Bangkok. |
A good one:
Going to Carolina in my mind |
I grew up in Allentown, PA so I'm going to have to go with the obvious one here and pick Billy Joel. :)

Katmandu by Bob Seger.

Istanbul.
You know, Constantinople used to be Byzantium. But then it was changed to Constantinople, not Byzantium. And every gal in Byzantium lived in Constantinople, not Byzantium. So if you had a date in Byzantium, she'd have been waiting in Constantinople. |
Istanbul is an excellent choice.
I also like America by Simon and Garfunkel, but not They're Coming to America by Neil Diamond. |
