Fundraising for scouts

Is going to be the death of me.

So many rules. So many disagreements between involved parties. So many hard feelings.

"My kid did all the work, why should he have to split money with kids that didn't do any work."

And so forth. I just try to keep my head down and do what we can, but knowing that we are going to probably fall short as we follow the rules that the Bishop has us adhere to.

It would be nice of course to live in a ward where all the parents could just pay for this stuff and we didn't need fundraisers. On the other hand, it's good to be working with kids and families of more limited means for whom the fundraiser helps significantly.

I haven't donated to FOS for a while.

I have never donated. Partly because while I was a scout leader I was poring hundreds of dollars every year into my calling.

There isn't much point in donating to FOS beause the money from it is mostly used to maintain the local council office. Sometimes they use it to maintain council owned camps, and then they charge troops to use those facilities anyway.

Usually council camps are free to use for campouts.

I ran the fundraiser this year, organized it entirely by myself. Scrapped the old fundraiser. Raised about $2500 in one day + donations from ward members.

Really? When I was a financial clerk a few years ago I remember having to write a check to the council for the the ward troop's use of a council owned camp.

We used to go down to Camp Wisdom (close) and it was free.
