Cross country skis or snowshoes?

For anyone that has done either of these, which do you prefer for winter recreation and exercise?

I would imagine that I would enjoy either one, but the budget can't possibly have room for both.

Any thoughts?

If you have a couple of tennis racquets around the house, you already have snowshoes. :)

I prefer to stay indoors during the winter. I hate the snow.

Some of us actually travel TO the snow during winter. For the express purpose of seeing and being in the snow. I happen to be one of those people. I feel kind of fortunate in this regard. I have a great view of the snow-capped mountains from my office window, while I don't have to shovel the stuff when I'm already late for work.

I love the snow and miss living in it, after spending about 10 years in the cold country. Its about 30 miles to the snow from my house. I hope to get up there a bit more this year.

Understood. It fuels the economy here this time of year.

I could handle the snow if it only stayed in the mountains. I just don't like to have to deal with it during the winter down in the valley.

watch out for avalanches.
