The sports talk station with the highest listenership in DFW is 1310 The Ticket.

What's kind of interesting about these guys is that sports makes up, at most, 50% of what they talk about. That's generous.

They talk about all sorts of things. They have segments where they talk about TV shows. Movies. They have a regular segment where they talk about "community quickhits" going over the biggest local news stories, including crime.

They talk about personal stories, pet peeves, you name it. Just a few guys sitting around and talking, taking occasional phone calls.

In other words, it's a lot like a sports internet message board, which in most cases, like CougarGuard, is not entirely about sports. It's a conversation among people that are generally interested in sports, but the conversation veers quite far from sports.

Now ESPN radio, locally, is very sports-centered. But I have to admit, I find myself more entertained by The Ticket most of the time...
