Polygamy
Okay, here's one I was dying to ask on Cougarboard, but I know it wouldn't have lasted long.
Let's say polygamy had lasted to the present. And let's say you have two wives. Do the "bonds of marriage " exist just between you and each wife, or do they encompass all of you together? Maybe this sort of thing is one reason it's no longer with us. Yes, my wife's away visiting family for a week, and sometimes it would be nice to have another one around. p.s. I am so dead if my wife ever sees this. |
are you asking if wives are sealed to each other?
I don't know, but I wouldn't think so. |
I think he's asking if the 3 could share the same bed. But maybe I read it wrong.
I'll admit I've wondered how living arrangements worked back in those days. Were they all wealthy enough to maintain separate households? |
Kind of both. Yeah, the prurient part of me kind of wonders about the "threesome" aspect (i.e. would that be "unholy & impure" or would it be one of those "between you and your wives" kind of things), but I also do wonder what the relationship between the plural wives is. There are just some fascinating dynamics in the relationships between women and women and between men and women.
I think a conversation I had with my wife kind of encapsulates the dynamic (by the way, this is a virtually word-for-word conversation we had a few weeks ago): Me: Sometimes I think that polygamy thing would be a good idea. Wife: Yeah - then I could have someone to talk to, and you could have someone to have sex with! (she was only half-kidding) I took an anthropology class at BYU, we studied a couple of polygamous cultures. I have never seen such a henpecked man than a man who has five wives telling him what to do. :? |
I have asked my wife about a million questions that started with "If polygamy came back....."
To the point that she has stopped answering them. :) |
