195 out of 242. Obviously missions play a role in that. Just like Mormons, I have heard, are less likely to enlist in the military. ROTC rank is 64th, which isn't terrible. But not exactly leading the pack either. |
BYU is #1 in hours of volunteer service, and it's not even close.

what good is it to be first place in hours served, but last place in terms of impact on the community? |

How many of those doors you knocked on thought you were doing community service. When the Baptists and JW's show up on my door step, I didn't think of it as community service. Look, the church does a lot of service and I don't think we have to apologize to anyone. However, Romney made a jackass out of himself comparing his sons service to military service. Let's not get into it with others claiming our young men are out perfroming community service. If it doesn't piss them off, they will just laugh you off. |
I'm bothered by our support for the war in Iraq but not enough that we want our sons to join the military. I've been in my current ward for sixteen years and not one kid during this time has entered the military. I realize missions play a big part in this but our words and actions don't really match up.

Do you believe BYU students should lead the pack in Peace Corp job applications? Remember it's a job, not a charitable activity.
Why would this job be more noble than any other? |
