Death before rape

When I saw this headline, I couldn't help but think of the LDS teaching that it would be better to be dead and protect your honor then allow yourself to be raped.

Does anyone think the church will comment on this?

I'm pretty sure that's not an official LDS teaching today. Perhaps it was taught a generation ago. I haven't heard anything like that for a while, but I'm sure a lot of the rural utah/southeast idaho LDS tradition my mother in law and many others in the church identify with probably still think it's official doctrine.

Who was the young woman who later went on a mission that was kidnapped and raped? The Church seemed supportive of her choices in that instance.

Elizabeth Smart? Of course they are going to be supportive. Because the alternative is to slut-shame girls who have been raped. They would never do that. Wait....
