Pocatello Marathon

I ran one of the fastest half marathons of my life -- problem is, I signed up for the full marathon and tanked it in the second half. I'd heard the warnings about going down the hill too fast at the beginning of the race, but I did it anyway. It was a sad, sad situation. I finished with a time of 4:04 something.

I made the exact same mistake in '07. I went through the first half in 1:49, and the second half took me 2:04. Still managed a sub-4, but I was mad, because I knew I had mismanaged my pace badly. I think I could have run 3:45 if I had been smarter. I hit the 20 mile mark and I was done. That hill that goes under the freeway may as well have been Mt. Everest. It killed me.

What did you think of the race? For a small marathon, I thought it was excellent. The race shirt is the best one I've ever gotten, and getting the duffel bag was cool too. I think I'm going to do Poky again next year.

I did like the race. It was really nice that the buses went the back way up the mountain so the ride up was pretty short. The duffle bag was also cool since my running bag is about to fall apart. Food and post race festivities were nice too.

I took the kids to the city pool afterward and spent some quality time in the lazy river soaking my tired bones. Except for the race itself, it was a nice trip.
