BYU ranked 79th best university

We are just trailing Baylor.

I was shocked to discover that Utah is in the 3rd tier, and therefore not ranked. Did they not understand that Utah is a Nobel-prize producing school? Baffling.

To be behind Clemson is a bit disappointing. I would have thought BYU would rank better. Behind Iowa or Tufts. That ranking is actually quite disturbing.

To have Cal Tech behind Princeton, what's up with that? The rankings are weird.

It's due to the fact that BYU doesn't succeed (or try) in some areas that universities are measured--like graduate programs and research. If every university were like BYU, then the nation would go into the toilet. Academic research is vital and important to this country, but due to opportunity costs I suppose, BYU doesn't emphasize or pursue it. It is what it is.

That's what makes the fact that BYU is ranked ahead of Utah interesting.

But Clemson? I didn't know people in South Carolina could read let alone research or be considered a legitimate university. I thought that's where all the criminals that couldn't get into South Carolina matriculated to play football.

Uh, correction. This is a ranking for undergraduate programs. As the list says, 79th best "college." Do you know the difference? The listing is also heavily weighted toward admission standards. I think this is as it should be but state law essentially disqualifies Utah from competing on these lists. Utah should establish competitive admissions standards like most of its peers do.

Idiot. It says "National Universities: Top Schools".

National Universities.
