Ride Reports?

We road to Searchlight, Nevada, the birthplace of one Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid.

It is a spot in the road designated a former mining town.

The road is straight, not flat, and surrounded by rugged and arid desert scenary.

It's a fifty ride out. Well, we expected easy times. Haha.

We leave at the designated time of five in the morning. We noticed, geeze, it's already warm. Yikes.

Okay, so we take the fifteen mile warm up to the turn off. Three miles down. Not to bad. My young whipper snapper is riding my tail. He's Miking it fierce.

A mild section for a few miles and then we head straight into a fifteen to twenty mile and hour head win, with a general uphill trajectory, for about 28 miles. The second longest climb I've ever done this side of HaleAkala on Maui.

It was torture. And my buddy, Miked it the whole way out. So we arrive an hour or so later than expected go in to refuel, only to hear a couple complain, can you imagine how bad our gas mileage was. Well Lady, yes we can.

We're sapped. But what goes up, must come down. Zipping down at 33 mph without pedaling until the three mile climb with youngster Miking it, until he whips around on the last climb to pull away. Okay, so I'm the horse pull the speed boat.

We race up a few hills, and I discover that head winds change, and with 109 degree temperatures, head winds and nasty cars, an intended 120 mile ride becomes a 103 mile ride.

I don't think I'll ever catch the Viking. We had a ride time of just under seven hours, the world's slowest century ever recorded.

I rode 53 miles today. Which is probably equals the rest of my miles for this season.

Mild headwind on the way back home.

This is my first long ride using the aero bars. They are lifesavers. Esp. with a headwind.

I'm really pooped.

I doubled my usual 22 miles or so today and it actually felt pretty good. The problem for me was the heat - not Vegas or Dallas heat at all - but hot enough that I had to really hydrate myself at the midway point.

I went a good 5 miles in my ride to the grocery store and back. Gas prices are awfully high, but my car still gets good mileage, so no problem there.

I did about 30 miles or so today ... in the boat. And no it's not a scull, kayak, or other human powered vesel. :)

Yesterday evening was calm so I went out to time myself for a forty mile ride. I hate to even post this but I did those 40 in 1:52:30. That is no where near an Arch effort but it was faster then this old boy has done it in years. Thanks for scaring the hell out of me and making me push myself.

I promised the wife I would take her hiking this summer so today I spent it in the Tetons hiking so no bike time for me today.

Skunked.

We did a little family overnight campout and had a great time.

Did a 4 mile run after spending all day at a swim meet. The swim meet was tougher on me than the run and I was just a spectator.
