Deseret Towers to be razed

I received one of those "mybyu" emails today. The headline says "W" and "V" hall will be razed this year. The rest will be demolished in the future. I never lived in DT, but I know it's been a big part of the BYU experience for many.

I was in Q Hall my freshman year.

Wow, those ancient dorms.

Here is the reason given:

"The reason for those two [ V-Hall and W-Hall being demolished] is because they are separated by a parking lot, which makes a natural boundary," said university spokesperson Carri Jenkins.

I'm not saying that they don't need to be blown up but I don't quite understand the reasoning here. Does the parking lot make it easier to blow them up? If all the halls had a parking lot between them would they all get blown up?

Which are the Deseret Towers? What are they near on the campus?

Maybe once they get blowed up they will create a natural space for others to get blowed up. Oh that is so cool. I want to hit the switch on one.

The NE part of campus, just across from heritage halls. They are very visible from 900 east after you pass the MTC going south.

W-Hall 4th Floor DawgPound Alumnus.

There's no parking lot between the two halls. Just a common area. It's seperate from the other halls to the east because of the Morris Center. We used to have paintball wars at night from window to window at the towers. Almost got into a fight and watched a friend press another kid's face against the glass of the 6th floor of V hall. Swimming at the pool and checking out the girls and milfs with their kids. Dining Plus and the creamery. Getting to know the fine people in the honor code office. The bomb that somebody made and let off in our emergency exit stairwell (which we used to evacuate the building). Aw, the memories.

I lived in U-hall for a year. My best memories of BYU took place at Deseret Towers. That was a crazy place.

About 5 years ago we were playing basketball on the DT courts and a kid went to save a ball and couldnt stop, he went head first through the window. Busted his head wide open.
