New marathon WR

Haile Gebrselassie broke his own world record on Sunday. Ran a 2:03:59 in Berlin.

That's 4:43 a mile, just in case you're wondering.

Pretty amazing. What do you think is more impressive, Bolts 9.68 or a 2:03 marathon?

bluegoose 09-30-2008 11:53 PM

I couldn't keep that pace for even a 1/2 mile.

I don't think either is more impressive, I think they're both superhuman. For a guy to maintain a 4:43 pace for 26 miles, though...dang.

That's friggin amazing. You watch these guys on TV and it doesn't even look like they're running that fast--essentially a sprint for 26 miles. It makes me wonder how slow I would look on TV.

I wonder if we'll live to see 2 hours broken.

I was just thinking the same thing. That would be an unreal accomplishment. He only needs to shave 4 minutes off his time (I think about 9 seconds per mile).
