I think precisely because of how big the stakes are. We don't want to admit to ourselves that the very survival of the program may depend on what happens in the next two weeks, and we have no control whatsoever over the outcome.

So it feels best to be pessimistic and not get our hopes up. Because if they are dashed (and yes, they will likely be dashed), the hill to climb is almost impossible.

We will become a hollow shadow, without substance or hope.

We will be Boise State, but never even play in New Years bowls.

I don't see a coherent argument anywhere for why the other P5 leagues would have any reason to give the Big 12 what they want here.
