Pinewood Derby

Our ward is holding a PD activity. So we are going to participate and I started working on a car last night during the Super Bowl.

I thought it would be cool to make a Lightning McQueen (Cars movie) like this:

Of course, with no real woodworking tools, and no skills even if I had the tools, that is not going to happen.

In fact, I am only using a Swedish survival knife. And while pine is not as tough as oak, it isn't exactly balsa wood either!

In other words, I am making the world's ugliest pinewood derby car. Porbably the first of many I will make over the years.

Our ward did one last summer and it was a lot of fun. We didn't have all the same rules that the Boy Scouts do so people got pretty creative with their cars. One guy attached a fish bowl on top of his car which was holding a live beta. I believe he earned the people's choice award.

Get yourself a Dremel tool. A small kit is about $40 and it has everything you need.
