Why do people hate Hillary?

Simple question: Why do Republicans seem to universally despise Hillary Clinton? I've never really been able to understand it. My observation is that pretty much every single Republican, and therefore pretty much every single Utahn, harbors some sort of deep, heartfelt loathing of Hillary Clinton.

As I pose this question to my Hillary-hating friends and family, the responses I receive tend to be shallow, trivial, and in general, complete Red Herrings. Nothing of any particular depth or substance. My step-dad actually made the argument, straight-faced, that he despises her because he's convinced she's a lesbian (why else would she have stayed with Bill after the Monica debacle?). Republicans don't seem to have similar feelings toward Obama or Edwards...just Hillary.

I'm not particularly enamored by Hillary myself, but I certainly don't hold any real contempt for her. Somebody tell me why all you Republicans do.

1. Doesn't possess a sincere bone in her body.
2. Stayed married to a husband that repeatedly cheated on her; simply because it was politcally advantageous to do so.
3. Doesn't appear to have any real ability to get anything done
4. She doesn't stand for anything
5. Has the charisma of a salted slug
6. Has a voice which produces the same effect on farm animals as impending tornadoes, earthquakes and trips to the vet.

I don't like ugly people. I can ignore most ugly people, but she's on my TV every damn time I turn it on - that tends to breed hate.

Don't limit it to Repubs. My old boss, a died-in-the-wool Dem from Western Pennsylvania working class stock hates here and said he would never vote for her.

Along the lines of what Indy said, I think she comes across as arrogant, knowing what's better for us all. Her association with ther husband doesn't help. Also, much like Bill, she tends to take credit for things in which her part was very marginal (what is up with this 35 years of service to America crap?). Add to that all the fawning over her that many Dems displayed from the beginning ("She's the most intelligent woman I've known." That statement has sexism written all over it, but I guess Dems get a pass on that one.), and there is a backlash.

That said, she has gotten a little bit more likable as she has taken on that light-weight Barack.

She's too "establishment" for me. Voted for war in Iraq, will not rule out strongly considering war with Iran, doesn't care about corporate bribery of politicians, is secretive about things and would likely run a "covert" administration similar to Bush's, hates video games (not much of a gamer anymore, but censorship bothers me in all its forms). Her lack of charisma does play a role as well, as much as I've tried to avoid being swayed by such things.

She is perhaps the strongest dem on science issues, which is a big deal for me, but her faults outweigh her strengths, imo, at least in relation to the other candidates.

Exactly what I mean.

Indy -

Responses:

1. Ridiculous - give me one example of her supposed insincerity
2. What evidence to you have that she only stayed married for political reasons? Of course, there is none (most women would be applauded for working through things and avoiding divorce in an imperfect marriage), but you, like most Republicans jump to ridiculous conclusions for some inexplicable reason
3. Again, a ridiculous statement...she as more political capital than any of the other candidates, and is generally well thought of by her constituents in New York.
4. Knee-jerk reaction by a GOP myopian. Her platform is as principle-centered as anyone else's.
5. Okay, I'll give you this one, I guess.
6. Interestingly, you're not the first person to tell me tis about her voice.

This is exactly what I was referring to. Not a single one of Indy's complaints was issue-related. Aren't the issues the things that should determine our next president? Again, I'm not going to vote for Hillary, but this vitriolic venom constantly spewed about her seems way over the top, and fairly illogical.

I echo what everyone else has said and will ask you this:

What is there about her to like?

Yes it is illogical, but so are politics. Why should one state with only 12 delegates be so important during a nomination process.

If its an issues thing, then she is on the opposite side the issues and doesn't package her opposition very well.

Tex 01-14-2008 10:07 PM

Oh my. Did you not live through the '90s, Homo? (or do go by Erectus for short? Neither option is that appealing)

1. "We are the President" / With us, you're getting a 2-for-1 deal
2. Nationalized health care
3. "Vast right-wing conspiracy"
4. "I didn't stay home and bake cookies" and other assorted feminist views
5. Bill. Guilt by association.
6. Marriage of political convenience. No, I don't have "evidence" but perception can sometimes count more than reality, and there are a LOT of us with that perception.
7. I voted for the war, but was against the war, but am taking credit for the troop surge.
8. Big gov't liberal

I could go on, but that's sufficient for now. I don't have a visceral hate for the woman, but I detest what she stands for. Her ideas are the polar opposite of everything I believe America to be.

Ok, how about this for issues related:

She's a f***ing socialist.

FWIW, you see Indy's responses as ridiculous because you disagree with him about her. I think he hit the nail on the head. It's about perspective and for that, your responses to Indy are as ridiculous to me as his are to you.
