Running Shoes

I have to go buy some running shoes. I am not a runner, but the military is going to turn me into one, so it's time to invest in a pair and get started. What does one look for in a good pair of running shoes. One of my cousins told me to buy last seasons styles and I'll save a bit, but to look at Asics, New Balance, or Nike. How am I supposed to decide which ones will be best? They all just look like tennis shoes to me.

Any other running advice? I mean ANY, no matter how idiotic and obvious it seems, because again, I am NOT a runner.

I can't really help you because I hate running.

Archaea is particularly suited to choosing running bras, but that is not your question.

Some people would advise going to a running specialty store to be fitted to a pair of shoes. You would need to check with local runners about what store that might be.

Watch out for shin splints. Don't bounce when you are running (too much up and down movement). Don't overtrain into the injury zone. Work on strengthening your core as well (back and abs).

That's all I got, kid.
