"How can a generation whose cultural trademark is a refusal to grow up have a midlife crisis?"

Note that it's the gen xers themselves who started this boomer hate. Speaks volumes, though my only point is the folly of these kinds of generalzations anyway.

By the way, Robin has a big boomer hate thread on Cougaruteforum. You may want to check that out, Waters.

Baby boomer presidents: Clinton, GWB, Obama.

Big thumbs down.

Funny how boomers keep getting more numerous. I didn't used to be one. What is the begin and end dates?

When the demographers realized your douchiness, they redefined the generation to include you.

Egomaniac.

It's kind of ironic that Robin ended up banned from Cougarguard, and that CUF formed with almost the exact same makeup of CG, with the notable exception of me.

So in some ways it is merely a trade of me for Robin.

Given that to some degree CP was a reaction to Robin (not entirely, but partly), and that CP is arguably what led to the downfall of CG, the whole thing has a kind of snake-swallowing-its-tail irony and harmony.

I could not have imagined it at the beginning, but now at the end, it makes me smile.

Oh Mike, don't be fooled by the exodus's guise of taking the high road; there were some who simply coveted your authority.

MikeWaters 05-21-2010 02:54 AM

That's cool. Doesn't matter to me. My life is better now as a result.

Not exactly, actually.

CG's downfall? I think it would be a shame were there no CG.

"It's called the 'Me Generation' because they came of age during one of the most difficult times to be a kid," says Chuck Underwood, founder and president of the Generational Imperative Inc., a Cincinnati-based consulting firm that researches generational differences for businesses dealing with marketing, sales and product development.

"Gen Xers were kids in the '70s, '80s and '90s. Key, critical, formative years when they were watching adults in government and business cheating and failing," Underwood says. "And in 1986, when almost every Gen X group was in a classroom, they watched and saw the Challenger explode with a teacher inside."

But perhaps the biggest blow to many Gen Xers came closer to home when their moms and dads divorced in unprecedented numbers.

... They're much less concerned with hierarchy than boomers. They are independent and aren't concerned about face time with the boss. They're also more comfortable with female bosses and, of course, they're not intimidated by authority, says Underwood.

downfall is short hand.

Gen X is the last generation to have memory of the Cold War, the last generation to know what it is to live under the threat of nuclear holocaust.

Of course, boomers like Obama seem to have no memory of it. Maybe it wasn't acknowledged in Indonesia and Hawaii.
