Donation to Prop. 8 cause

I'm surprised this didn't generate much discussion yesterday outside of creekster's comment.

I know it's not much money, but I see it as a Rubicon of sorts.

Is that not the case?

creekster 10-30-2008 06:05 PM

I think it is not the case. Using the Rubicon model, the Church isn't crossing, but one or two fo its soldiers fell in and so there you are. (I have no more insight than you, this is just my guess.)

Someone smarter than me tell me what "in-kind" donation means please. I think I might be assuming right but need more clarification and examples.

Not money.

It's when you donate donuts for the volunteers and paper for the copiers.

Gidget 10-30-2008 06:39 PM

OKay that is the part I assumed correctly. Examples please . . . .

I'm a 25 year old, non-degree holding, stay-at-home mom. My talents exclude business and finance - throw me a fricken bone here all you CG geniuses.

Please don't feed the egos. That's rule number one here at CG. (Mike did give you the rules, right?)

Gidget 10-30-2008 06:42 PM

Thank you Lebowski! Thank you.

I just can't keep up again, I waste my time here.

Take a deep breath and relax. You are doing fine.

"LDS Church made the in-kind donation to cover the travel expenses of several Utah-based church leaders who went to California for a meeting last week."

They were simply 'community organizing'.

Gidget 10-30-2008 07:10 PM

Thank you all for humoring me.

Thanks. I am ok now. Like I said my talents don't include business and finance, but that doesn't mean I don't have talents . . . .

I guess it's not that big of a deal then.

I have a couple of friends who were steamed that church funds (their tithing, so to speak) were going to this. Heretofore, it was encouraging private donations. Even if it's a donation in kind, the church is now openly financially involved. And my friends feel that since they pay money to the church, they are now somehow implicated. While I - and they - recognize that once you put the money in the little gray envelope you surrender all rights to how that money is spent, it's a little depressing to see money (even if it's only a relatively tiny amount) consecrated to God going to fund this issue.

In-kind donation of transportation? Does the church have their own jet or something? Maybe they let them take a vehicle and gave them a gas credit card? Seems like they are going out of their way to emphasize it was not a direct cash donation. Nevertheless, something of value went to the cause out of your tithing.

No way.

Gidget, you need to look at your screen, tell yourself, "I'm smart as hell," and keep typing. There are only a couple of bona fide smart-guy geniuses around here, and a whole lot of dumbasses who are masters at wasting time on here (I fall into the second category).

You keep posting. I like reading what you have to say.

That many?

I thought we just amounted to an army of master wikipedian googlers.

Maybe they donated frequent flyer miles. With all the missionary travel, with the hundreds comming and going each month the Church must rack up miles and free flights like crazy.

LOL.

I was thinking of a guy in Ohio and a guy in Indiana as our geniuses. You used to be in this category before you started thinking of trading in your lexicon for the lex. (in order to buy a lexus?).
